Responsibilities

Job Summary
 
The Edit x Express is the new editorial content experience from Express. We are seeking a full time Women’s Editor to join the team. We cover all elements of style and we are looking for someone with a similarly broad range of interests to bring ideas, content, and contributors. Standard of writing, elevated taste-level, story-telling proficiency, curiosity, and ease with talent of all types are essential qualities for this full-time position. The Women’s Editor will report to the Editorial Director.

This position leads the planning, assigning, and editing of all women’s editorial content across all Express digital experiences, including but not limited to The Edit x Express. They will work with staff and contributors to develop ideas and refine story-telling. This person will work closely with the all production to ensure narrative integrity.
The Editor will be a stickler for details, will be creative, and will not be afraid to be bold. They will be highly organized, deadline-oriented, a hard worker, and rigorous in journalism. Patience is required as we are a new and growing team. This person will leverage their network of freelance talent and their editorial experience to create engaging, timely content that engages the current audience and grows new audience members. This person will understand digital publishing best practices and digital publishing analytics in order to achieve key metrics and drive growth in the positive impact of editorial content to the Express business.

Planning
•Plan, assign, and edit the daily lineup, including a mix of feature stories and trend and how-to quick hits.
•Pitch story ideas across all verticals
•Contribute ideas for sponsored and custom content and write copy for those stories as needed
•Contribute the necessary stories per week that captures Express’ signature voice, tone, and approach
•Work with the creative, production and bookings teams to plan and execute original shoots, graphics, and video for multiplatform publication
•Plan and execute big-picture ideas and innovative social programs that engage readers and help grow the Express editorial audience.
•Pattern direct and aspirational competitors
•Relentlessly experiment with story construction and publishing innovation

Production
•Deliver on-time, clearly defined editorial content pieces from beginning to end, including fact checking, requesting additional writing, requesting/suggesting photos or other assets, final layout, and final editing (grammar, spelling, word flow, and style guide)
•Partner with photographers, writers, musicians and music editors, layout designers, Public Relations, and merchant partners to create the ideal content for each post
•Work with designers on look and feel of content
•Works with photographer/videographer to create compelling images and video
•Act as the editor on set for interview and lifestyle shoots
•Manage expectations and request required assistance in a timely manner to alleviate blockers and deliver on-cadence and on-time
•Keep a close eye on performance, social media strategies, and audience growth and engagement
•Ability to pitch, research, and write specified posts, including integrating editorial feedback

Operations
•Run the day-to-day operations of the women’s editorial department (maintaining calendars, monitoring work requests and works-in-process through the approval process, and assisting in vendor management and follow-up)
•Manages the first line of contact with specific vendors
•Edit existing website content to bring it up-to-date and up to current editorial standards
•Evaluate content performance on owned and distributed channels pivoting and re-focusing as necessary
•Work with Operations Lead and editorial staff to ensure contracts and payments are executed in a timely manner and within budget

Job Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
•Minimum 5 years of experience in digital publishing, 2 years in management role
•Strong knowledge of fashion and lifestyle trends, as related to Express and from the broader women’s 18- to 30-year-old target community
•Strong knowledge of the fashion, grooming, and lifestyle industries
•Strong understanding of Express brand voice
•Demonstrated experience developing narrative and editing people’s work
•Strong writing skills and an ability to produce well-written copy quickly
•Strong editing skills and a familiarity with style rules when it comes to spelling, grammar and structure
•Strong track record with interviewing, storytelling, and editing
•Demonstrated success in the creation of excellent content under pressure
•Strong ability to consume and act upon editorial analytics (site, email, social channels including YouTube, and beyond)
•Excellent communication skills, written and spoken
•Detail oriented, organized, and able to work under tight deadlines
•Knowledge of SEO best practices
•Proficient in Word Press
•Proficient in MS office including Outlook
•Sense of humor a plus
