Responsibilities

Express is growing and in need of a talented  Merchant to join our team . Our Merchants support the brand objectives and deliver sales and profit targets. They work effectively with all cross-functional partners (i.e., Design, Planning & Allocation, Production & Sourcing, Marketing & Visual, etc.) to deliver departmental plans. They manage and gather customer and competitive information that drives the strategic view of the line. They have an eye for fashion trends and are able to translate that into business results. 


Essential Tasks

- Accountable for a specific category/ area of the business business
- Understands the customer through concentrated profiling and customer intimacy 
- Provides customer an assortment with a “one-eye” point of view that works within the complete brand vision 
- Supports Merchandise Manager/ VP with the strategic view of the line 
- Intense involvement in competitive patterning hypothesis, analytics and qualitative findings 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
- Strong presentation and communication skills 
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills 
- Proficient in conflict management and problem solving 
- Ability to identify, develop and retain talent 
- Achievement oriented with a strong management experience and demonstrated leadership potential 
- Proven sense of urgency 
- Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Power point and Outlook) 
- Ability to think strategically and tactically 
-  Strong fact-based and intuitive decision-making skills
- Ability to handle challenging situations in a rational and level headed manner 
- Ability to travel domestically along with occasional international travel
