    The Director, Communication designs and manages executive and associate communication strategies and tactics, with particular attention to ongoing strategic counsel, planning and coaching for top-level executives. In alignment to the Express business goals, this role is the lead message developer, communication consultant, change counselor and campaign manager for all major internal communication initiatives and all external communication activities not related to Public Relations or Investor Relations.


    In addition, the individual manages external communication partners, including vendors.




    Serves as communications strategist for two-way communication program that builds associate understanding of business goals, important business developments, and strategies and how associates support achievement of those strategic goals and initiatives.


    Develops message framework and communication approach to support business agenda and specific, high-profile and complex initiatives.


    Ensures alignment with and understanding of enterprise/business/initiative goals, objectives to ensure internal and external communications and change management strategies integrate with and support success.


    Creates measurement strategies that allow consistent and timely monitoring of associate understanding and attitudes to identify and address gaps.


     Builds and maintains media relationships, responds to and/or pitches media stories related to company initiatives




    In partnership with the SVP of HR will develop and execute the communication strategy for the CEO’s associate focused communications.


    Advises leadership on communications and change management issues, including organizational sensitivities and nuances.


    Coaches and helps develop communication skills of business leaders, including the development of communication tools, templates and training to better enable leaders to be chief communicators, including prepping for interviews with the media.


    Ensure all corporate messages are consistent across social media channels


    Determine the right placement of articles, quotes in trade journals, speeches and presentations at trade conferences




    Translates strategies into communication plans to inform, align and engage associates around a broad breadth of key business issues,corporate initiatives., and philanthropic efforts.


    Ensures messages and themes across functional areas align with business goals and objectives.


    Develops new and enhances existing enterprise-wide processes and communication vehicles publications, video, surveys, Intranet, executive presentations, etc. – to increase their effectiveness and impact.


    Writes and edits complex messages and materials with clarity of purpose and intent, and provides feedback to others related to optimal substance, usage and style; clearly demonstrates ability to understand and express a broad view of the business landscape and can translate it for a variety of associate audiences.


          Creates content that enhances the Associate experience through the Facebook Workplace platform


    As needed, perform the role as the spokesperson for the company in areas not related to Public Relations or Investor Relations; monitor and facilitate press requests and press releases


    Provide competitive analysis reports and industry best practices


    Manage the corporate communication budget


    Responsible for all communications for all associate events such as : Brand Briefings, Town Halls, and Associate Appreciation meetings - including Associate recognition programs.


    Partner with Leadership and HR team to develop elevated Philanthropy communication strategy



    • 10+ years of corporate communications experience
    • Strategic thinker with exceptional written and verbal communication skills – flawless execution
    • Comfort level and proven ability to be a communications consultant to senior management regarding the development of strategy, clear messages and appropriate channels of delivery
    • Experience in organizational change management
    • Experience in crisis communications, situation assessment and response strategies
    • Experience using a variety of internal media and research tools
    • Excellent team orientation and partnering skills across functions and enterprise
    • Ability to motivate independently, and influence a cross section of associates throughout the organization


    Brand-specific Responsibilities

    • Ability to understand Express and drive the external brand image strategies internally through creating an elevated employment branding.
