Responsibilities

The Network Engineer 1 is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of the Express, Inc. network. This position involves aiding multi-disciplined technical teams in deploying and supporting network services such as routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, VoIP, proxy servers, remote access devices, DNS servers, FTP servers, NTP servers, SIP services, and authentication systems. Responsibilities include translating complex business requirements and aligning the appropriate infrastructure solution to support business needs. The Network Engineer 1 oversees the delivery of infrastructure solutions which includes planning, testing, and implementing production-ready configurations.

 

This position demands a high level of commitment, strong analytical problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and participation in an on-call rotation.

 

  • Deploying, managing, and maintaining scalable solutions for the enterprise network.
  • Identifying, researching, evaluating, and implementing emerging network technologies.
  • Responsible for configuration, installation, maintenance, documentation, and in-depth troubleshooting.
  • Managing multiple vendors and technologies.
  • Maximizing network performance and establishing proactive monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot network problems, resolving outages, and scheduling upgrades.
  • Cross team escalations and communications.
  • Support during network cut-overs and changes to the environment.
  • Continuously developing technical knowledge and skills.
  • Participation in the team’s on-call rotation.

 

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or 1-3 years of equivalent experience
  • Strong organizational, technical and business communication skills. 
  • Knowledge in Cisco routing, switching, MPLS, and Security.
  • Knowledge and experience with technical security controls and vulnerabilities including Authentication systems, Virtual Private Networks, Vulnerability scanners, Firewalls, and other network security devices.
  • Knowledge and experience installing, analyzing, and troubleshooting networking technology including TCP/IP, Routers, Switching, VLANs, LANs, WANs and Wireless systems.
  • Strong project management skills including requirement analysis, project scoping, problem solving, status reporting, technical analysis, and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Proven, troubleshooting skills in a multi-location LAN & WAN environment.
  • Experience with deploying tools and methodologies to monitor application and network performance on a 24x7 basis and reporting any performance degradation or bottleneck.
  • Provide escalation and support for troubleshooting and resolution of all data and voice issues as required by other infrastructure support teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Able to provide 24x7 on-call technical support.

 

 

CRITICAL SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Experience in Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies.
  • Network Planning, Installation, and Administration.
  • Knowledge of MPLS WAN, VPN, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP.
  • Understanding of load Balancers (Cisco ACE, F5), Security (Firewalls, IPS, ACL’s).
  • Understanding of Cisco VoIP services (SIP, QOS).
  • Experience with Cisco, Aruba or other equivalent wireless technology platforms.
  • Experience maintaining TCP/IP Networks.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, data communications, network infrastructure and operating systems, DNS network/internet protocols (SMTP, HTTP, SNMP, Windows Domain services).
  • Experience deploying and maintaining SD-WAN solutions (VMware VeloCloud)
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN architectures (such as SONET, MPLS, VPN, T1, T3) and protocols (such as BGP, RIP, OSPF, HSRP) and technologies.
  • Understanding of cloud technologies and services: GCP, AWS, Azure
  • Experience with switches and routers, including switch and load balancer, configuration, administration, troubleshooting and support.
  • Experience with authentication systems such as Cisco ACS/ISE and Aruba ClearPass.
  • Knowledge of network operating systems and trouble-shooting techniques and related diagnostic hardware and software tools (i.e. probes, sniffers, PCAPs).
  • Experience working with vendors, customers.
  • Demonstrated effective decision-making, problem solving, analytical and communication skills.
  • Must possess a high level of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently and effective at building partnerships to facilitate the accomplishment of goals.
  • Familiarity with organizational policies, business requirements for information security, contractual issues, and the regulations related to information security such as SOX and PCI.
  • Strong organizational/time-management skills.
  • CCNA certification in Route/Switch or Voice preferred.
