Responsibilities

Express has an exciting opportunity for a curious, motivated, forward thinking, analytical engineer to join and shape the Oracle Retail Management System. The Technical Consultant will be responsible for all aspects of managing complex application environments including: installation, configuration, engineering, and development across multiple environments, operating platforms, languages and network topologies. Through implementing, driving and championing IT best practices, the Technical Consultant and team will lead improvements to system reliability, reduced code complexity, and knowledge transfer while driving toward operational excellence.

 

  • Participate in business and technical requirement gathering sessions with business users to grasp all aspects of the business need (functionality, processes, and technology)
  • Identifying and selecting appropriate software tooling to enable techcnial best practices
  • Determine feasibility of business requests and collaborate with team to architect solutions as needed
  • Provide accurate, detailed estimations (time, and effort) which can then translate into technical specifications
  • Complete Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) from design, flowcharting, development, testing and implementation. This includes ability to consumer existing solution, identify improvements, and continue building within our heavily integrated environment.
  • Provide support and troubleshooting for all related systems and technologies
  • Work as a point of contact with our business community, often acting as a liaison between business and IT development team.
  • Requires strong problem solving and communication skills to interpret issues and provide solutions.

  • Connecting the dots between complex existing solutions and introduction of new data sets to uncover and implement improvements
  • Immediate response to critical batch interruptions and production incidents to quickly identify and mitigate issues, with follow up to automate with self-healing code
  • Participation in an on-call rotation to deliver 24/7 system uptime and immediate issue mitigation as the first line of defense against system interruptions, including escalation to second line support as appropriate
  • Passionate about problem solving – relentless, enthusiastic pursuit of solutions to challenges ranging from basic day to day incidents to complex, multi-system, integrated puzzles involving code and data components
  • Automation of everything: builds, deployments, testing, issue resolution, and day to day activities

  • Partnering with other Technolog teams to identify opportunities for process refinement and standards improvement

 

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or an equivalent combination of course work and job experience
  • 7 - 10 years of experience with systems analysis and programming experience; minimum three years of project design activities
  • 7+ years of Oracle DB experience
  • 4+ years integration experience
  • Proficiency with various languages, databases, operating systems, scripting languages, and utilities
  • Technical expertise in required languages, operating systems, databases, development tools, networking, and/or software packages.
  • Participates in full lifecycle projects to understand business requirements and then complete the design, development, testing, implementation and post production support.
  • Possess an excellent knowledge of software development (i.e., program design, flowcharting, coding, testing, debugging, etc.).
  • Participates in discussions concerning innovative, cost effective ways to implement new technologies to lead in the evaluation of new products, platforms, and technologies leveraging best practices based on industry standards and lessons learned while taking innovative
  • Translate functional specifications into technical specifications to provide low level details for development lifecycle.
  • Attends meetings that identify functional specifications for modifications, interfaces, reports and screens to ensure solid design that meets business requirements.
  • Work with external consultant team through knowledge transfer to understand set up, configurations and design in order to provide on-going enhancements and support.
  • Participates in, system walk-throughs of technical and operational features, functions and attributes of a new or existing software package.
  • Perform administrative functions relation to project activities; project plans, technical specification development, status reports, issue reporting, etc.
  • Ability to determine feasibility of business requests, estimate timelines and resources needed, and assist project manager with project planning.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call support activities
  • Understands RHEL 6.x+ basics, including the ability to write bash/ksh scripts and use Linux commands
  • Ability to program in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL languages
  • Ability to use Oracle utilities, e.g. SQL*Loader and features, e.g. external tables
  • Ability to administer and configure Oracle Retail Application (RMS, RPM, RIM, ReSA)
  • Ability to administer and configure Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) for batch Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) jobs
  • Ability to administer and configure Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), including printer setup and role based security
  • Ability to administer and configure application specific security features using Oracle Internet Directory (OID and Oracle Access Manager (OAM) in conjunction with Active Directory (AD)
  • Ability to administer, configure and troubleshoot the Oracle Retail batch schedule via the Control-M scheduler, including job/thread restarts and parallel tuning
  • Ability to perform batch and integration application performance tuning.
  • Ability to provide second level support for Oracle Retail Integration Bus (RIB) issues, including performance of Error Hospital Maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of the C programming language for troubleshooting Pro*C batch issues
  • Ability to program in the Oracle Forms language and make Menu modifications.
