Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Cut and Sew Knits Designer will work closely with the Design Director to develop initial concepts and maintain inspirational board and   working design boards with a balanced assortment for cut and sew knit categories. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the design process from concept to completion while partnering with the Director to ensure alignment on priorities and direction.
  • Consistently shop and research marketplace, including our competitors for inspirations and opportunities in product, fabric, wash, color and trims.
  • Research identify and present trend direction.
  • Actively participates in the conceptual development of product lines (i.e., sells ideas/concepts and convinces others to adopt a course of action).
  • Plan the line according to sales needs and emerging trends while maintaining appeal to our customer
  • Ensures that product is consistent with market trends and business strategy.
  • Ensure product is being designed within cost parameters.
  • Create and present design boards for each season showcasing silhouette, fabric, and print, pattern, color range.
  • Works closely with production partner to ensure design packages are complete and accurate.
  • Partner with merchandising to assort line and develop product appropriate for business needs.
  • Detailed garment views and sketches for review in design meetings Detailed flat “call-out” sketches for inclusion in technical packages to describe garment construction for factory to follow.
  • Sketch modifications/ updates after design review in fittings to be sent with fit comments back to factories.
  • Pull research and trim options for design selection.
  • Creation of design boards including mock ups, reference garments, fabrics, trims.
  • Work with Design Development team to gather material needed for development
  • Work with Head Designers on possible color palettes for specific products.
  • Understanding and experience with Product Development of garments from sketch to final approval
  • Experience with working with Prints and color, possess excellent color sense
  • Knowledge of construction and execution of a garment
  • Experience executing tech packs including specs as needed
  • Responsible for the day to day design for Cut and Sew categories under Design Director
  • Work with design director to create concepts, select color stories, develop fabrics, prints, trims and graphics
  • Design and sketch seasonal collections including tops, bottoms, skirts, shorts, jackets and dresses
  • Request fabrics for protos and samples
  • Request lab dips and strike-offs through bulk production
  • Execute Print and pattern with CAD teams
  • Work with cross functional partners (Merch, Production and Tech) to ensure product integrity from sketch, to protos, to assort samples to bulk
  • Attend fittings with tech team
  • Presentation of designs and visual boards (with cads, illustrations, fabrications and garments samples) to cross functional partners and design leaderExecution of line plans and color cads
  • Execution of line plans and color cads
  • Research designs and present new ideas to team leaders
  • Analyze current design trends and incorporate into the collection when appropriate
  • Review weekly business and selling reports to improve relevance of product in the pipeline
  • Extensive Sketching skills and knowledge in adobe illustrator

Job Requirements

  • College degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
  • 7+ years design experience, experience with knit fabrication strongly preferred, but not required.
  • 5+ years Cut & Sew Design experience
  • Passion for tee shirts and tanks, hoodies and sweatshirts, and an eye for new & now fashion silhouettes.
  • Prolific in fashion shape & silhouette ideation and have the skill to identify of the moment details and trends specific to this category.
  • Design key items, modern fashion & feminine fashion and have a broad hand to cover each of these aspects of our brand edit confidently.
  • Must have experience & success in partnering with cross functional partners: Merchants, Tech Design & Production.
  • Must have ability to influence merchant partners in trends and big ideas they believe in.
  • Organized, articulate and clear in their decision making when working with Tech Design & Production partners.
  • Experience with a range of different types of cut and sew from active to novelty fashion knits
  • Experience with graphic tee shirts
  • Strong knowledge of fit, fabric, construction details and pattern, color.
  • Proficient sketching in Illustrator and capable in Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Experience in a PLM, PDM system.
  • Ability manage and help develop skills of direct reports.
  • Strong Design skills and ability to communicate ideas through hand sketches.
  • Excellent drawing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Advanced contemporary aesthetic.
  • Strong sense of style, color, and fit.
  • Ability to identify key trends and determine how they appropriately relate to the brand/ consumer.
  • Thorough knowledge of silhouettes, fabric, color use, sewing techniques, and trim.
  • Strong background is assorting tasteful color & pattern stories.

  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish good relationships with business partners and department staff.
  • Ability to present focused visual presentations and ability to speak to designs with clarity
  • Experience with PLM systems
  • Organized and Flexible
